Teacher dies in gun attack

A PUBLIC school teacher was killed while two others escaped unscathed in a gun attack in a remote village of Zamboanga Sibugay province, the police reported Wednesday.

The Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office (ZSPPO) said the incident took place at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Balugo, Imelda municipality.

The police identified the fatality as Rowena Abubakar, a public school teacher and a resident of Poblacion village, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Investigation showed the victim, together with two companions, was on the way to the Poblacion village when shot by one of two men riding tandem in a motorcycle, the police said.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot while her companions, whose identities were not disclosed, escaped unscathed, the police said.

The suspects fled toward Diplahan town and investigation continues to unmask them, the police said.
