THE City Government of Zamboanga is finalizing the activities for the residents this summer season.

City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernadez said that the Festival de Verano will officially kick off on April 25 with the Summer Escapade at Sta. Cruz Island.

Hernandez said the event known as the Zamboanga Summer Festival aims to promote the Sta. Cruz Island as a prime

tourism destination.

This year’s festival will feature Juego de Antes (Games of Yesteryears) to allow Zamboangueños to discover and

experience the games of past generations.

The Juego de Antes will also give the older generation an opportunity to relive their childhood through the games

they once enjoyed.

This year, Zamboanguenos of all ages will get to enjoy the games as the Juego de Antes will run for three

Saturdays: May 3, 10, and 17.

The Festival de Verano will also pay homage to two of this city’s well-known residents: former Mayor Maria Clara

Lobregat and General Vicente Alvarez.

The City Government will lead the commemoration of Dia de Ma’am Caling in celebration of the late mayor’s birth

anniversary on April 26.

The observance of Dia de Vicente S. Alvarez on May 18 will kick off with a mass at the Fort Pilar Shrine at 4 p.m.,

followed by a ceremony at Plaza de Vicente Alvarez and a program at the City Hall.

The Festival de Verano will culminate in a grand parade of lovely belles, gowns and arcs on May 24.
