A SUPERVISOR of an electric firm was killed in an ambush in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday.
Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) spokesman, said the incident took place around 7:13 a.m. Monday at Purok 2 in the village of Switch, Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga del Sur.
Ortega identified the victim as Genifer Llanes, 41, the Area-1 Member Development Officer of the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative-1 (Zamsureco-1).
Investigation showed that Llanes was driving his motorcycle on the way to report for work at Zamsureco-1 sub-station in the village of Switch, Ramon Magsaysay when ambushed by four gunmen, Ortega said.
Llanes sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot. The suspects fled on board two motorcycles without registered plate numbers.
Liberal Cabatcha, Zamsureco-1 information officer, said the victim had been receiving death threats after the 2013 elections.
Because of the threats, the Llanes family recently transferred residency to Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, Cabatcha said.
He said that Llanes’s wife, who ran for mayor but lost in the nearby Don Victoriano town, Misamis Occidental, has a pending protest against the incumbent mayor.
Investigation continues in a bid to identify the suspects behind Llanes’s ambush slay, Ortega said.
