Jeepney driver dies, cop hurt in gun attacks

A PUBLIC utility jeepney driver was killed while a policeman was wounded in a separate gun attacks in Zamboanga City, the police reported Thursday.

Slain was Eliezer Rico, 48, a passenger jeep driver, and wounded was Police Officer 1 Al Muhajil, 36, who is assigned in the municipality of Pata, Sulu.

The local police reported that Rico was shot and killed Wednesday evening along Crispin Atilano Street in the village of Tetuan, east of this city.

The police said the victim was driving his jeep on the way home when repeatedly shot by a lone gunman.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, the police said.

Muhajil was allegedly shot and wounded Wednesday evening by a lone gunman identified only as a certain Merkhan in the village of Upper Calarian, west of this city.

The victim-policeman was rushed to the hospital while the suspect fled on foot and remains at large, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
