Soldier wounded in ambush-A A +A

A SOLDIER was wounded while three others were unscathed when a gun battle ensued following an ambush in the hinterlands of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Tuesday.
The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Office reported that the incident took place around 6:30 a.m. on Monday at Sitio Siquijor in the village of Palinta, Kabasalan municipality.
Wounded was Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Rodel Roda of the Army’s 44th Infantry Battalion Alpha Company, the police said.
Investigation showed that the soldiers were aboard a military truck driven by Private First Class (PFC) Roberto Dua traveling from their detachment in the village of La Paz, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay en route to the headquarters in the village of Peñaranda when ambushed by a group NPA rebels.
A brief firefight followed when the soldiers managed to return fire, the police said.
The NPA rebels fled upon sensing the arrival of reinforcement, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
