THE Department of Education (DepEd) is making the necessary preparations to offer Senior High School course in Zamboanga City in line with DepEd’s K to 12 program.
City Schools Division Officer-in-Charge Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad said initially they are planning to establish one school per district that will offer Senior High School program.
This, as Natividad said not all of the 34 local public secondary schools are ready to offer the Senior High School course.
Natividad disclosed not all the public high schools have the capability in terms of buildable space and teaching staffs.
“Space is important as laboratories for technical vocational courses must be built and the teachers must be properly trained for the Senior High School program,” Natividad said.
The Senior High School students under the K to 12 will have the privilege of selecting their field of specialization such as pre-college education, vocational, arts and sports education or further study in college.
The Senior High School is the Grade 11 and Grade 12 levels under the K to 12 program and the DepEd is mandated to implement it starting 2016.
Natividad said they are currently checking all the public secondary schools to determine what are the schools’ needs in fully implementing the K to 12 program. (Bong Garcia)
