AT LEAST 200 families were displaced while two people, including a fireman, were injured in a fire that hit a west coast village in Zamboanga City, officials said.

Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr., Fire Marshal of the Zamboanga Central Fire Station, said the fire broke out around 7 p.m. and razed to the ground 100 houses in the village of Campo Islam, 4.5 kilometers west of this city.

Zabala said the fire, which was declared fire out at 11 p.m., has destroyed at least P3 million worth of properties.

Zabala said the fire started at residence of Hadja Salip and rapidly spread to the other houses of light materials and closely-build from each other.

He said that Salip was injured during the incident.

He identified the injured fireman as Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Edward Natividad of the Recodo Fire Sub-Station.

He said Natividad suffered arm sprain after he fell from a roof while on firefighting maneuver.

Meanwhile, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Ma. Socorro Roxas said that relief assistance was immediately provided to the fire victims.

Roxas said some of the fire victims are housed at the covered court of the John Spirig Elementary school while some have sought refuge with their relatives.
