MAJOR General Felicito Virgilio Trinidad, Jr., Commander of the 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division (1st ID) based in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, is now the new commander of the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

This was announced by 1st ID’s Public Affairs Officer-in-Charge Captain Franco Suelto in Zamboanga City, who said that Trinidad was installed on Monday as the new Nolcom chief by AFP Chief-of-Staff General Emmanuel Bautista.

Trinidad, as the Nolcom chief, will have command over three major services and these are the following: two Army Infantry Divisions based in Isabela and Nueva Ecija; Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL) based in La Union; and, the Tactical Operation Groups 1, 2, and 3 based in Baguio, Isabela and Tarlac.

Suelto said that Assistant First Division Commander Colonel Aminkadra Undog will serve as the "Tabak" Division officer-in-charge until a new commander will be assigned to lead the Army's premiere division.

Trinidad, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) (Sandigan) class of 1982, has replaced Lieutenant General Gregorio Pio Catapang.

Catapang, who served as the 25th Nolcom chief, was assigned as the new AFP vice chief of staff last May 23.

Suelto said among the significant accomplishment of Trinidad during his stint at the 1st Infantry Division was the successful defense of Zamboanga City during the September siege last year.

In recognition to his feat, Trinidad was awarded Philippine Legion of Honor (Degree of Commander). (Bong Garcia)
