THE livelihood project of persons with disabilities got a boost from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through its shared service facilities (SSF).

DTI Regional Officer-in-Charge Dr. Sitti Amina Jain said the latest recipient of the agency’s SSF is the Kapisanan ng Mga May Kapansanan ng Ipil, Incorporated (KAMPIL) based in Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Jain said KAMPIL, Incorporated led by Ruel Brillntes comprises of more than 300 PWD-members.

Jain said the KAMPIL is the first association of PWDs to recently receive SSF from DTI in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, which comprises of 16 municipalities.

The SSF consisted of five heavy duty sewing machines, one motorized abaca twining machine, and an accompanying rope-making implement that the association requested from the DTI for their handicraft income generating project, said Jain.

“Mere words couldn’t express our heartfelt gratitude to the government through the DTI for all these equipment which we account as blessings. These give us new hope and even more reason to live as productive members of society notwithstanding our physical disabilities,” Brillantes said.

Jain commended the KAMPIL, Incorporated for their remarkable fortitude and determination to surmount obstacles such as physical disabilities in order to contribute productively to their family and community.

She said such kind of attitude is what the country desperately needs but regretfully is absent in many amongst the able-bodied and physically complete individuals.

She advised the group to undergo further training on pricing and costing, on marketing, and on skills upgrading to further improve their products.

She envisioned the group to join in the Zamboanga Peninsula Trade Exposition scheduled to be held in October in Zamboanga City.
