A PHYSICIAN Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) lost some P1.27 million after he accidentally left his bag at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in this city, the police reported Thursday.
Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) Spokesman Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega identified the OFW as Dr. Angus Aranan, 48.
Ortega said that Aranan, bringing along with him a bag containing cash money and clothes, went to the OWWA office Wednesday morning to make some transaction being an OFW.
The cash money comprised of $26,000 (P1,134,900 at an exchange rate of P43.65 to a dollar) and P143,000 or for a total of P1,277,900.
Ortega said Aranan left the OWWA office accidentally leaving his bag and proceeded to a nearby bank to deposit money.
Ortega said the physician rushed back to the office of the OWWA but his bag was already missing.
He said a review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera showed that Aranan’s bag was taken by the security guard, Rafael Hernandez, of a private security agency detailed at OWWA.
He said Hernandez was longer at his post at OWWA when they looked for him.
Hernandez and his family were no longer at their residence at Magnolia Lane in the village of Canelar when policemen went to the place to look for him, Ortega said.
Investigation continues to locate Hernandez as well as recover Aranan’s money, Ortega said.
