DTI sets Diskwento Ramadan-A A +A

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is holding a Diskwento Ramadan which offers discounted prices of halal foods and other products for the Muslim consumers starting Thursday until Friday in Zamboanga Peninsula, a top DTI official announced.
DTI Regional Director Dr. Sitti Amina Jain made the announcement Wednesday as she encouraged Muslim consumers to avail of the Diskwento Ramadan.
“For the first time, and here only in our region, we are holding a diskwento project that is timed before the start of the holy month of Ramadan to afford Muslim consumers and the general public the opportunity to buy halal food products and even other items at discounted prices,” Jain said.
Jain said that Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is observed worldwide by devout followers of Islam as a month of fasting - with some exceptions such as those who are ill, travelling, diabetic, and pregnant or breastfeeding.
She said the Diskwento Fair will be simultaneously held in the cities of Zamboanga and Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, and in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
She said the Fair in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte and Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay will be held in-store while that in Zamboanga City will be held at Plaza Pershing.
Similar activity will also be held in Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur, but will be held in-store only on Friday, according to Jain.
Jain said adult Muslims go on fast from dawn to sunset but they may partake of food, particularly halal food, before sunrise and after sunset.
Jain said there will be another diskwento fair in July 26 in time for the celebration of Eid’l Fitr. (Bong Garcia)
