TWO New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered following series of negotiations in the province of Misamis Occidental, a military official said Tuesday.
Army’s 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs officer-in-charge Capt. Franco Suelto identified the rebels as Arnel Lumangcag alias Ka Jobert, 25, and his cousin, Jerry, alias Ka Bogar, 19, both residents of Laud village Don Victoriano Chiongbian, Misamis Occidental.
Suelto said the two surrendered Monday to the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion headed by Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Luzon following series of negotiations.
The negotiations to surrender started when the battalion “Bayanihan Team” conducted an advocacy concerning the Gun-for-Peace Program (GPP) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Under the GPP, Suelto said the rebels who will surrender will receive remuneration for every firearm they will turn over depending on the type and serviceability.
Suelto said the Lumangcag cousins are set to receive P58,000 each since they yielded two AK-47 rifles with ammunition.
He said they could use the money to finance a small business as they a new living.
