THE authorities are set to file appropriate charges against a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who fabricated her abduction from a shopping mall in Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

This came after the police authorities have located the whereabouts of the supposed abduction victim, Pebelyn Bertulfo, 38, and it turn out that she was not abducted after all, officials said.

Pagadian City police commander Superintendent Glenn Dulawan said that Bertulfo was located and recovered by policemen last July 3 in the village of Karakong, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte following continued search of her whereabouts.

Dulawan said Bertulfo was found in Salug, Zamboanga del after the getaway vehicle that was used in her supposed abduction last July 1 was found abandoned in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

Dulawan said that it was also discovered that Bertulfo falsified her pregnancy since the physician who attended her at Liloy District Hospital in Zamboanga del Norte found no trace of delivery despite her claim she already gave birth.

Earlier, it was reported that Bertulfo was pregnant and was supposed to undergo a caesarian operation for triplet child at one of the hospitals in Pagadian City.

Dulawan said it was discovered Bertulfo managed to convince her family that she is pregnant after showing them a copy of an ultrasound examination result.

Bertulfo together with her sister-in-law and brother-in-law had been temporarily staying at a hotel in Pagadian City since last June 18 while waiting for her scheduled caesarian operation.

The victim and her brother-in-law, Arnulfo, went to a shopping mall last July 1 purposely to buy the things she needs for her scheduled caesarian operation.

However, Arnulfo went out of the shopping mall leaving Bertulfo alone and failed to find her upon his return inside the establishment.

Arnulfo rushed to the local police headquarters to seek for police assistance after he received a text from his sister-in-law asking for help.

“Blue van, tabang (help),” she told Arnulfo in a text message.

Dulawan said it was learned that marital problem had pushed Bertulfo, who is from the village of Gumahan, Josefina town, to fabricate her abduction and pregnancy.

Pagadian City Councilor Ernesto Mondarte, chairman of the City Council’s Committee on Police and Public Safety, said that Bertulfo’s husband separated from her after he discovered she is not a nurse.

Mondarte said that the supposed victim is allegedly engaged in an illicit affair with a married OFW, who is also separated from his wife.

Mondarte said they have already referred the case to the Pagadian City Legal Office for the filing of appropriate charges against Bertulfo for falsely claiming to have been abducted inside a shopping mall.

He said such claim created alarm and apprehension among the populace in Pagadian City.
