Friday, July 11, 2014
THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced the opening of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) scholarship for school year (SY) 2015-2016.
DOST-Zamboanga Peninsula Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano said the PSHS scholarship is open to Grade 6 pupils who belong to the upper 10 percent of the graduating class of SY 2014-2015 as certified by the school principal, or those with special aptitude in Science and Mathematics, as supported by a report card and letter of recommendation.
Manzano said the applicant must also not be more than 15 years old by June 2015, and must be a Filipino citizen with no pending application as immigrant in any foreign country.
She said the applicant must be in good health and is fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.
The PSHS is the first science high school in the Philippines that nurtures students to become scientists and technologists in the future, according to Manzano.
She said the PSHS has a curriculum designed to prepare the scholars for careers in science and technology.
Among the privileges that PSHS scholars will get are free tuition, free loan of textbooks, and monthly stipend.
Uniform, transportation and living allowances are also provided according to the scholar’s financial need, Manzano added.
Application forms and scholarship brochures can be obtained at the DOST regional office at Pettit Barracks, Zamboanga City, as well as in the Provincial Science and Technology Centers in Poblacion, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; Upper Turno, Dipolog City; and Rizal Avenue, Pagadian City.
More information about the PSHS-NCE can be accessed through the PSHS System website at www.pshs.edu.ph, Manzano said. (Bong Garcia)
