FIVE gunmen, two of them pretended to be passengers, have robbed a passenger vehicle carrying 16 people in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Thursday.

The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Office reported the incident took place around 4:58 p.m. Tuesday in the village of Poblacion, Kabasalan municipality.

The police identified two of the highway robbery victims as Nardo Dalomingo, 30, the driver, and Vevencio Paster, 52, the fare collector.

The police said the other 14 victims, whose identities were not released, were all passengers of the utility van driven by Dalomingo.

Investigation showed the victims were traveling to the municipality of Kabasalan coming from ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay when two among the passengers pulled out handguns and declared the heist.

Three other gunmen armed with rifles arrived when one of the suspects fired his gun.

The police said the suspects divested the fare collector and the passengers of P10,600 and other valuables.

The suspects fled on foot to Kabasalan River and boarded a motorized, their getaway vehicle, after divesting the victims of cash and valuables.

Investigation continues in a bid to unmask the identities of the suspects, the police said.
