THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is set to undertake a dredging project to put into operation the newly-expanded portion of the port of Zamboanga.

Port Manager Engineer Liberto Dela Rosa said there is a need to conduct dredging since the expanded area cannot accommodate big vessels as its depth is only 2.4 meters.

Dela Rosa said the place needed to be dredged to 11 meters deep.

Dela Rosa said the dredging project would cover more than 170 meters wide since the length of the expanded portion of the port is 170 meters in length.

He said they have already requested P100 million fund from the PPA central office to undertake the project, which is set to be implemented this year.

Meanwhile, he said they will determine whether or not the area could be used in the meantime by small boats.
