ABU SAYYAF bandits have freed a Zamboangueño plumber they kidnapped 53 days ago in the island province of Sulu.

Zamboanga City Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Remigio Lingayan was released around 12:20 p.m. Sunday in the village of Bunut, Indanan, Sulu.

Lingayan, who is a resident of Tumaga village, Zamboanga City, is a plumber at the municipal water district of Maimbung, Sulu.

Upon his release, Lingayan was picked-up by one of the personnel sent by his supervisor. He was then brought to the Sulu Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) for medical check-up and later to the Sulu police provincial headquarters.

Lingayan, his wife Analiza, and a relative, who went to Sulu to fetch him, arrived in Zamboanga City Sunday afternoon aboard a military plane.

Salazar presented Lingayan to the members of the local media before the start of Monday’s press conference at City Hall.

The Abu Sayyaf bandits have seized Lingayan and a co-worker, Joselito Gonzales, last June 5 in Sitio Baunoh in the boundary of Timbangan and Kan Islam villages in Indanan town.

Gonzales and Lingayan are relatives since their wives are sisters. Both are residents of Tumaga village, Zamboanga City.

However, Lingayan said Gonzales was killed after the latter was hit in a cross-fire when their Abu Sayyaf captors clashed with the Marine forces last June 19 in the village of Buhanginan, Patikul town in Sulu.

Lingayan has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those who exerted efforts for his safe release.

He said he has do not wish to return to Sulu and continue to work after what he has experienced while in captivity.

However he said has no choice if but to return to Sulu if he will land a job in this city.
