AT LEAST P2.3 million worth of properties went up in smoke in three separate fire incidents that hit the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte, officials reported Thursday.

A Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) official said that P800,000 of the P2.3 million worth of properties were razed when a fire hit a closely-built community in the village of Balangasan, Pagadian City on Wednesday night.

Pagadian City Fire Marshal Senior Inspector Reggy Olmedo said the fire lasted for about an hour and 39 minutes and razed 10 houses.

Olmedo said the fire broke out around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday from the house of Ludivica Agan and rapidly spread to nearby houses.

Investigation showed the fire was caused by a lighted candle that was left unattended after Agan’s nephew, Jassen Al-os, who was at home at that time fell asleep.

Olmedo added that there was no electricity at the time of the incident.

He said there was no reported casualty except for the 10 houses that were destroyed and a backhoe that was damaged.

An estimated P1 million worth of properties were also burned in a fire that broke out around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday in the village of Langatian, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte.

Police Regional Office Information Officer-in-Charge Dahlan Samuddin said the fire gutted down the house of former Roxas municipal mayor Carlito Ferras.

Investigation showed that the fire, which lasted for about an hour, started on the second floor of Ferras’ house.

At least 30 houses were also destroyed in another fire incident that hit Purok Silangan in the village of Estaka, Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte.

He said the fire broke out around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at the house of Dodoy Morgia and rapidly spread to nearby house made of light materials.

He said the firemen contained the blaze around 3:45 p.m.

The BFP investigator placed the cost of damage to properties at P500,000.
