A MEMBER of the Philippine Marines and his friend were killed inside a gymnasium in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said.
Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) information officer-in-charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin identified the fatalities as Merjun Disapor, 22, a Marine soldier assigned in Indanan, Sulu, and his friend, Renell Alastra.
Samuddin said the incident happened around 1 a.m. Friday at the municipal gymnasium of Poblacion village, Pitogo, Zamboanga del Sur.
Investigation showed the victims were having a drinking spree on the upper portion of the gymnasium’s bleacher while watching the intramurals of the JH Cerilles State University when shot by an unidentified gunman, Samuddin said.
Alastra died on the spot while Disapor was rushed to a rural health center, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, he said.
The responding policemen have recovered four empty shells of M-16 Armalite rifle at the crime scene, he said.
Investigation continues to identify the motive of the incident as well as the identities of the suspects, he added.
