Kidnappers free engineer, 2 others

GUNMEN believed to be members of the kidnap-for-ransom group have released an engineer and two others they have seized more than two weeks ago in Lanao del Sur, a military official said Saturday.

Army’s 1st Infantry Division Public Affairs Officer-in-Charge Captain Franco Suelto identified the victims who were 14 days in captivity as Engineer Francisco Enot, his wife, Loida, and their driver, Danilo Bariga.

Suelto said the victims were freed around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the boundaries of Madalum and Bacolod-Kalawi towns in Lanao del Sur.

Suelto said the victims were fetched by Hadja Johairah Macabuat, a businesswoman, to the headquarters of the Army’s 51st Infantry Battalion the village of Poblacion, Balindong in the same province.

Suelto said the victims were subsequently brought to the provincial capitol complex in Marawi City for medical check-up.

He said they were reunited with their families at the guest house of the Provincial Capitol.

He did not say whether or not ransom was paid in exchange for the release of the victims.

The victims were seized by five unidentified gunmen around 5 p.m. last August 15 in the village of Paraaba, Ganasi, Lanao del Sur.

They were conducting projects inspection when the gunmen waylaid and seized them.
