MAYOR Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar led on Saturday the inauguration and turnover of 41 units of permanent shelters to the victims of the September 2013 standoff in Zamboanga City.

The housing units were turned over to members of the Martha Drive Homeowners Association in the village of Sta. Catalina.

The village of Sta. Catalina was among the areas affected in the 20-day standoff that started September 9 when hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members loyal to MNLF founding-chair Nur Misuari infiltrated the city.

The 41 permanent shelters inaugurated Saturday were part of the 44 housing units worth P9.1 million that were built for the members of the Martha Drive Homeowners Association, Incorporated under the Zamboanga Reconstruction and Roadmap to Recovery (Z3R).

The other three units are still under construction and already nearing completion.

Salazar told the beneficiaries the housing units were among the permanent shelters that President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, has announced in his State of the Nation Address in July that will be turned over by the end of August 2014.

“The President has complied with his promise. You are the first recipients of permanent housing units,” Salazar said.

Jocelyn Dime, a housewife and one of the beneficiary-families, said she is thankful for the new house. Dime said she and her family can now start a new life. Her husband is an electrician and they are blessed with two children.
Dime’s house was the first unit opened and inspected by Salazar after the inauguration and turnover program.
