FOURTEEN local restaurants showcased their specialties as the “Savores 2017” culinary event opened on Saturday in Zamboanga City.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) in partnership with the City Government and Hotel and Restaurant Association of Zamboanga City (HRAZC) initiated the holding of the culinary event.
The Savores 2017 features talents and skills demonstration of participating exhibitors from food production sector and iconic restaurants.
Savores, a chavacano term meaning “flavors.”
DOT Regional Antonio Fernando Blanco said the event is aimed to introduce to visitors the specialties of the different local restaurants.
“They would know where to dine and unwind when they visit this city,” Blanco said.
Two activities highlight the Savores 2017--food demonstration and dining experience.
Blanco noted this city boasts its tremendous shared flavors and influences from different countries like Arab nations, Malaysia, China and Spain.
The culinary event is coupled with a media familiarization tour organized by Tourism Promotions Board and DOT regional office.
The tour started Friday, April 21 and ends Sunday, April 23, with media professionals such as travel and lifestyle bloggers and tourism press corps of Zamboanga comprising the participants.
Blanco said the tour component of the Savores event is to further promote this city’s tourism in terms of culinary experience.
The primary feature of the tour is food processing demonstration highlighting iconic Zamboanga specialties.
Blanco said Zamboanga City could change the mindset of travelers especially those who have not been to this city and would further improve overall experience that is unique to Zamboanga with the support of all stakeholders. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
