A WORKER of a plywood firm was wounded while more than 30 others escaped unscathed in a gun attack in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Thursday, May 18.
Zamboanga del Norte Police Director Edwin Buenaventura Wagan said the incident occurred at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Sitio Quary in the village of Doña Cecilia, Sirawai town.
Wagan identified the victim as Robi Relativo, 30, an employee of the Sirawai Plywood and Lumber Corporation and resident of the village of Guban, Sirawai.
Based on investigation, Relativo was with 32 other workers on the way to Guban from San Nicolas aboard horses when an unidentified gunman opened fire, hitting the victim.
Wagan said Relativo was rushed to the Sirawai Rural Health Unit for medical treatment and was later transferred to a hospital in Zamboanga City.
Recovered from the crime scene were three spent shells of M-16 Armalite rifle and two M-14 rifle.
Investigation continued Thursday to determine the motive and identify the attackers, said Wagan. (SunStar Philippines)
