Abu Sayyaf bandit falls in Zamboanga

Sunday, June 18, 2017

JOINT police and military operatives arrested a suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and recovered bomb-making components in an east coast village of Zamboanga City.

Superintendent Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga City Police officer-in-charge, identified the arrested suspect as Hamsi Marani, a resident of the village of Muti, 58.80 kilometers east of this city.

Albarico said Marani, although not the primary subject, was arrested in a law enforcement operation around 1:10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, in the village Muti.

The police official said they were serving a warrant of arrest to Asbi Ahaddin alias Pogie, who is charged for the crime of attempted murder.

He said that Ahaddin managed to elude arrest and Marani, who was at Ahaddin’s residence, was arrested after the informant of the troops recognized the suspect as a member of the ASG.

Albarico added the arresting team has recovered at the residence of Ahaddin a detonating cord and two blasting caps. (SunStar Philippines)
