Zamboanga City gov’t to increase allowance of teachers

Saturday, July 15, 2017

THE Zamboanga City Government is increasing next year the monthly allowance of the 5,833 public school teachers in this city.

This was announced on Friday, July 14, during the Schools Division Leadership and Managers Conference by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar citing the City Government has allocated funds in its 2018 budget to cover the increase in the teachers’ monthly allowance.

Salazar said the teachers allowance budget for next year has been pegged at P69 million or P21 million more than this year’s P48 million.

The mayor said the allowance of public elementary and secondary school teachers will then be increased from P700 to P1,000 a month each starting next year.

“We hope this will be realized starting January of 2018 because you have for long been asking for this increase. If the police are receiving P1,000 each monthly, so must the teachers as well,” Salazar said.

She reminded the teachers to maintain a high level of vigilance in terms of security in their respective schools and communities by coordinating with the police and military authorities. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
