Pacquiao visits troops in Marawi City

Sunday, July 30, 2017

SENATOR Emmanuel Pacquiao has inspired the troops to finish off the fight against the Maute Terror Group in Marawi City, the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) said.

"Huwag kayong sumurrender dahil kumbaga sa boxing, nasa last three rounds nalang tayo ngayon at malapit ng matapos," the Wesmincom quoted Pacquiao when the senator visited the troops on Saturday.

Clad in Special Forces uniform, Pacquiao, an Army reservist with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, arrived at Camp Ranaw shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday, July 29, aboard a private helicopter.

Camp Ranaw houses the headquarters of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade in Marawi City.

“Gusto kong sumama sa inyo sa labanan,” Pacquiao said, addressing the troops upon his arrival.

The lawmaker was greeted by the top military commanders who are overseeing the offensive against the Maute group headed by Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez, Jr.

Pacquiao has also distributed goods to the troops and vowed to support all their efforts, him not only as a senator but also an Army reservist.

"We are happy to have the senator here with us today, it is indeed quite a privilege," Galvez said.

"We know our troops on the ground will surely be in high spirits, knowing that Senator Pacquiao took his time out to come and show support to our troops despite his busy schedule," he added. (SunStar Philippines)
