THE government security forces have arrested a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and seven lawless elements in separate operations in the Sulu, the military said.
The arrested ASG member was identified as Fahar Ismael alias Putoh Taron, who was involved in the kidnappings of Engineer Marso Salinas and Evelyn Chan, according to a report by Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom).
The Westmincom reported that Ismael was arrested by joint military and policemen at a checkpoint last week in the village of Timbangan, Indanan, Sulu.
The military said Ismael has an arrest warrant for murder as co-accused of his leader, Idang Susukan.
Meanwhile, seven lawless elements were arrested by joint military and police forces in the town of Lugus, Sulu on Friday, August 18.
Seized from them were three M-14 rifles, two M-16 rifles, an M1 Garand rifle, a Caliber .45 pistol, six clips for Garand rifle, assorted magazines, 13 magazines for M16, assorted ammunition, and assorted ammunition pouches and uniforms.
The arrested persons and firearms were turned over to Sulu Provincial Police Office for proper disposition. (SunStar Philippines)
