5 Abu Sayyaf killed, 5 soldiers wounded in Sulu clash

Thursday, September 07, 2017

FIVE members of the Abu Sayyaf Group were killed while five government soldiers were wounded in a clash early Thursday in the province of Sulu, a top military official said.

Brigadier General Cirilito Sobejana, Joint Task Force Sulu commander, said the firefight occurred around 6 a.m. in the village of Upper Binuang in Talipao town.

Sobejana said the clash erupted when the troops chanced upon 20 Abu Sayyaf bandits led by Idang Susukan.

The bandits fled leaving behind the remains of their companions and three high-powered firearms, Sobejana said, adding that the wounded soldiers were brought to a military hospital in Jolo, the capital town of Sulu. (SunStar Philippines)
