Sunday, September 24, 2017

A TOP official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the construction of the P22-million weightlifting center in Zamboanga City has already started.

Engineer Cholie Roble, DPWH district engineer, said they are closely coordinating with the private contractor to ensure the project will be completed by February 2018, as scheduled.

The two-storey weightlifting training center, which is being constructed inside the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex, will have complete equipment including a 32-bed capacity dormitory for athletes.

The construction of the training center is aimed to enhance the performance of the weightlifting athletes.

There are at least 100 weightlifting athletes based in the city. One of them is Hidilyn Diaz, the 2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist.
