TWO people allegedly engaged in illegal drug activities were killed in a joint law enforcement operation in the province of Sulu, a top military official announced Friday.
The joint law enforcement operation was carried out by troops from the Philippine Marines Ready Forces Sulu and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives.
Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez Jr., Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) chief, identified the slain drug personalities as Alsidi Anji and Benjie Dumdaydi.
The military and police authorities said drug personalities refer to either pushers or users.
Galvez said Anji and Dumdaydi were killed when they resisted the joint marine troops and PDEA operatives in a law enforcement operation around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Lambago, Luuk, Sulu.
He said they were believed to members of a notorious drug group led by a certain Jinar, who was not around when the lawmen swooped down his hideout.
He said the arresting team seized from the suspects’ possessions a loaded M1 Garand rifle, illegal drugs and illegal drug paraphernalia.
He said the suspects’ remains were turned over to the relatives in the village of Bulangsih, Panamao, by village Councilor Arafi Hajiron of Tubig Putih, Luuk. (SunStar Philippines)
