THE Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2017 reeled off on Sunday, October 1, with two back to back activities setting the stage for the month-long celebration in honor of Nuestra Señora de la Virgen del Pilar (Our Lady of the Pillar).
The opening salvo featured celebrity performer Daryl Ong of the Voice of the Philippines Season 2.
Adding color and fun to the numerous performances and presentations were the Inter-Barangay Bandoreal competition and the Pink October Walk which formed part of the Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, who spearheaded the opening salvo, invited all people to come to Zamboanga City to join in the celebration and pay homage to the Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar.
Salazar said diverse activities have been lined up leading to October 12, the feast day of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s most revered saint.
Meanwhile, the panoramic R.T. Lim known as the “Cawa-Cawa” Boulevard teems with nightly activities starting Saturday, September 30 to October 11, as the City Government mounts “Smoke Out Zamboanga-Grilled Food Fiesta” back to back with the Grand Midnight Sale ushering in the 2017 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival.
A total of 23 stalls selling freshly grilled food and other delicacies and 40 stalls offering a wide array of products line up the whole stretch of the boulevard for everyone to savor and experience.
On Monday, October 2, the Zamboanga Art Exhibit will kick off. It will be held until October 9 at the City Mall. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
