THE authorities have arrested a teenage theft and robbery-extortion suspect in an entrapment operation in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported on Tuesday, October 3.
Mark Leo Ordiales Fernandez, 19, was arrested around 2:15 p.m., Monday, October 2, in the village of Poblacion, Sindangan, according to the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Police Office.
The police said the entrapment was carried out after Elvie Danieles, accompanied by Virginia Oropesa, reported to the police that the suspect is extorting money from her in exchange for the return of her stolen cellular phone.
Danieles told the police that she was attending a mass on September 24 at the Cathedral Church of Sindangan when her cellular phone was stolen.
The police learned from Danieles that Fernandez has demanded money in exchange for the return of her cellular phone when she managed to contact the suspect.
The police said that Fernandez was arrested immediately after he received money from Danieles during the entrapment operation.
Recovered from the suspects when arrested were P500 marked money, two cellular phones and P260 cash of different denominations.
The suspect was detained pending the filing of the case against him, the police said. (SunStar Philippines)
