-A A +AMonday, October 25, 2010
AN EXPLOSION marred the election day in a remote town in the island province of Sulu, south of Zamboanga City, an official said Monday.
First Lieutenant Jinky Perez of the Western Mindanao Command
(Wesmincom) said the incident happened around 7:45 a.m. Monday in Maimbung town.
The explosion, she said, was caused by a rifle grenade that landed behind a polling precinct in Maimbung.
No one was killed or injured in the incident.
Perez said the explosion, however, has not disrupted the conduct of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in the town.
She said the government troops strengthened the security around the polling place to ensure the safety and the peaceful conduct of the polls. (Bong Garcia)
