Polls generally peaceful

ZAMBOANGA City Police Office officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo said Monday’s mid-term election is generally peaceful in this city.

De Ocampo said there were no untoward incidents reported except for technical problems on some of the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines.

3 killed, 3 wounded in gun attacks

THREE people, including a teenager, were killed while three others were wounded and a village official cheated death in separate gun attacks by riding-in-tandem gunmen in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Killed were Sito Tanog, 28; his brother, Jovencio, 31; and Bemar Marikit, 13. Wounded were Luzminda Lamdag, 57; Joselito Marikit, 45; and Bearge Marikit, 10, said Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca.

Government employee nabbed for vote-buying

A MUNICIPAL Government employee is in hot water after he was charged with violation of the Omnibus Election Code in Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Sunday.

Arrested and charged before the provincial prosecutor's office was Kaiser Wahid, an employee of the Municipal Government of Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

500 inmates to cast vote

EVERYTHING is set for the holding of the election on Monday at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-administered Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC).

The balloting will be held simultaneously with regular polling precincts outside the detention facility during Monday's mid-term elections, said ZCRC Warden Chief Inspector Julius Arro.

Gunmen attack LP mayoralty bet’s house

MOTORCYCLE-RIDING gunmen recently strafed the house of a Liberal Party (LP) mayoralty bet Leticia Awing in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, according to police.

Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Ariel Huesca said the attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. Friday in the village of Kulisap, Payao town.

2 arrested for vote-buying

THE police have caught two men engaged in vote-buying in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, a police official reported Saturday.

Zamboanga del Norte police director James Mejia identified the two men as Jeruhan Mandao, 29, and Teresito Tumaroy, 49.

Village official’s house strafed; 1 hurt

A VILLAGE watchman was wounded in an attack by riding-in-tandem gunmen at the house of a village official in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Saturday.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday at the residence of Maganay village chief Rogelio Lapuhapu located along the highway of Buug town.

Project for elderly, children unveiled

A PROJECT for the elderly and children worth P6 million initiated by House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar was unveiled Friday evening Zamboanga City.

The project, known as the Parque de los ancianos y niños (Park for the elderly and children), is located in a vacant lot near the Bahay Bulilit daycare center donated by the food chain McDonald’s in the village of Sta. Maria, north of this city.

House of mayor yields guns, fake bills

THE police raided on Thursday the house of Gutalac town Mayor Mariano Candelaria Jr. in Zamboanga del Norte and confiscated firearms, ammunition and fake bills.

Zamboanga Peninsula police spokesman Ariel Huesca said the raid was carried out around 11 a.m. Thursday on the strength of a search warrant issued by Municipal Circuit Trial Court-Labason Judge Cherry Joy Concha-Ageas.

Gunmen raid village official’s house

GUNMEN clad in masks and fatigue informs briefly held hostage three children and robbed a village official’s house in Dapitan City, a police official said.

The incident also resulted in the injury of two village officials who were forced to face the gunmen in exchange for the safety of the children.

Uncle shoots nephew over illicit affair

A 22-YEAR-OLD suspected of having an illicit affair with his own aunt was shot and wounded in a west coast village in Zamboanga City.

Shot and wounded was Totoh Abdullah, a resident of Baluno village, 28 kilometers west of the city. He was allegedly shot by his uncle, Kidal Barahama, who went into hiding after the incident, police said.

Ex-cop eyed in teacher’s slay attempt

THE local police are eyeing a former policeman as the suspect in the shooting incident that injured a public school teacher in Zamboanga City.

Tagged as the triggerman is Aldrin Usman, who was formerly assigned in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay and was dropped from the official roster of the police, said Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Edwin de Ocampo.

4 nabbed for vote buying

DTI, PCA hold coco-coir stakeholders’ gab

Road mishap mars PCOS machines delivery

Pursuit against bank robbers continues

Second batch of SPES starts working
