The market was built through a partnership between the Municipal Government of Kumalarang and USAid's Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, through its Barangay Infrastructure Project (BIP).
GEM has built over 1,050 community infrastructure projects, including footbridges, water systems, solar dryers, boat landings, trading centers, culverts, and bridge and roadway upgrades, in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao.
On non-tabo days, the Malipayon center serves as a consolidation area for agricultural products and for the trading of rubber, small livestock and dry goods.
The GEM Program expects to construct about 780 more BIPs, under the oversight of the Mindanao Development Authority. (Press release)
