NFA assures steady supply of rice in W. Mindanao

THE National Food Authority (NFA) Central Office has shipped last week 44,000 bags of Vietnam rice to augment the supply of Western Mindanao.

NFA-Western Mindanao Assistant Regional Director Rolando Maravilla said the additional supply is aimed to keep a steady supply of cheap rice in the region citing a high demand of Vietnam rice.

Maravilla said the demand of Vietnam variety of rice remains high since it is of good quality.

He said the stocks that arrived last week will be distributed to the Tindahan Natin outlets of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the region.

He said it is in line with the policy of the NFA to give priority in the distribution of Vietnam rice to the DSWD-operated Tindahan Natin outlets.

A kilo of rice sold in the Tindahan Natin outlets is pegged at P18.25 as it intended for the poorest of the poor, Maravilla said.

However, he said they still have enough stocks of the Thailand variety of rice, which is being sold at P25 and P30 per kilo.

He said the Thailand rice variety is being distributed to the NFA accredited outlets in the different parts of the region. Bong Garcia
