PLDT group donates P2.5M to Gawad Kalinga

TELECOM giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), through the PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), recently turned over a P2.5-million worth check to Gawad Kalinga (GK) Foundation.

The donation is part of the commitment of PLDT, Smart and PSF to build homes for their adopted GK villages in Southern Leyte and Sulu.

On hand to receive the check from PLDT Group Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and PLDT-Smart Foundation President Butch S. Meily was Gawad Kalinga Founder Tony Meloto.

Joining them were PLDT Community Relations Head Evelyn S. Del Rosario and PLDT and Smart Public Affairs Group Head Ramon R. Isberto.

Smart, together with PLDT and the PLDT-Smart Foundation, has adopted 10 PLDT-Smart Amazing GK villages in different locations. In Luzon, the sites are located in Baseco Compound, Tondo, Manila; Fort Magsaysay, Laur, Nueva Ecija; and Barangay Anoling, General Nakar, Quezon.

Meanwhile, the sites in Visayas include Barangay Budlaan, Talamban, Cebu City; Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo; and Barangay Guinsaugon, St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.

In Mindanao, the sites are Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao; Camp Abubakar, Barira; and Panglima Estino, Sulu.

Aside from funding the construction of houses in each village, beneficiary residents are also assisted through various livelihood and environmental protection programs. (Press release)
