Smart expands coverage of international MMS

SMART subscribers can now instantly share a milestone or a success with a loved one almost anywhere in the world via MMS.

Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) has just expanded the coverage of its international MMS to over 200 countries, making it the only Philippine telco with worldwide international MMS coverage.

"There are instances when voice calls or text messages just don't get the experience across as adequately as a photo or a short video. By allowing the sending of international MMS to the most number of countries abroad, Smart is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to keep Filipinos connected wherever they are in the world," said Smart Business Development and International Services Head Perry V. Bayani.

All Smart subscribers in the Philippines can send a photo or video via MMS to family members abroad by keying in the country code + area code + mobile number. International MMS costs only P20 for prepaid subscribers and P15 for postpaid subscribers.

The recipient abroad immediately receives an SMS notification that allows him to retrieve the MMS via mobile phone or an Internet-connected PC or laptop. The SMS notification contains the sender's mobile number, a URL where the MMS is embedded, as well as the MMS ID number.

To retrieve the MMS via mobile phone, the recipient abroad can click on the provided URL directly, where he keys in the ID number.

The recipient abroad can also access the MMS via his or her Internet-connected laptop using the URL and ID number provided.

Those who retrieve the MMS are given a chance to send one free SMS reply to the sender. The recipient abroad has seven days to retrieve the MMS.

Smart is the Filipinos' biggest mobile network to the world, serving 35.2 million subscribers on its GSM network as of end December 2008.

Its products and services are available in over 200 countries abroad in partnership with over 400 international network partners. Through PLDT Global, Smart also serves the mobile communication needs of Filipinos in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Italy. (Press release)
