SBP-Passarelle national basketball tourney slated in Zambo-A A +A

THE City of Zamboanga is playing host to the Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP)-Passarelle national basketball championships this year.
SBP-Passarelle franchise holder Pedro Alfaro announced the national tournament will be held on November at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Memorial Sports Coliseum in Tetuan village.
Alfaro said it is held under the auspices of the Best Center of Nic Jorge and sponsored by Milo.
He said the holding of the SBP-Passarelle basketball tournament in this city marks the 22nd year of active promotion of sports in Zamboanga City.
Alfaro disclosed that the local SBP-Passarelle basketball tournament reels off in August will be participated by 24 teams. He said the tournament aims to develop basketball talents in of youngsters across the country.
He said these are divided into 12 teams in the SBP category for 9 to 11 years old and 12 teams in the Passarelle category for youngsters 12 to 14 years old.
The winner in the local tournament will represent this city to the regional tournament on September in Davao City, Alfaro said.
The defending champion in the SBP division is the Ateneo de Zamboanga University while in the Passarelle class is the Claret High School.
The school-based tournament has generated basketball talents from Zamboanga City who plays in the national collegiate and commercial leagues, Alfaro said. (Bong Garcia)
