Florendo received P60,000 while Olila P40,000 reward. This is in line with the City Government's cash incentive program that aims to encourage Zamboangueños to excel in sports.
Lobregat said Florendo and Olila were among the almost 300 chess players from 18 countries that participated in the international competition held from May 14 to 22 in Subic, Olongapo City.
He commended Florendo and Olila for bringing pride and honor to the city. He also called on the two medalists to further hone their talents and win more medals in other national and international competitions.
The mayor also hopes that the two will serve as an inspiration for other chess enthusiasts.
