A TWO-DAY golf tournament reels off Saturday at the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, the oldest golf course in the country.
The two-day event dubbed as “Eric Laviña Cup” is sponsored by the Zamboanga City-based Perlas Tee Golf Foundation.
Raymond Padayhag, one of the new batches of the Perlas Tee Golf Foundation leaders, said several local and foreign golfers will see action in the said tournament.
Aside from Padayhag, the Perlas Tee Golf Foundation is also headed by Joseph Dy and Eric Chiong.
The foundation envisions to revive the JUNGOLF program of Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, a program aimed at developing interest in the sport among young, and paving the way for their greater involvement in the game.
In its larger mission, the Perlas Tee Golf Foundation wishes to help promote golfing in Zamboanga City as a veritable tourism come-on, and play host to different types of invitation golf tournaments, as done by the Coral Tee of Cebu, Durian Tee of Davao and the Mango Tee of Manila and others.
Lawyer Quirino Esguerra Jr., Zamboanga Golf and Country Club president, whose group supports the event, said they envision to regularly hold the tournament to promote the city as a center of golf competition.
