Zafco team dominates 2nd duathlon challenge

THE Team 7 of the Zamboanga Fitness Cycling Organization (Zafco) bagged the first prize as they bested 49 other teams in the 2nd Zamboanga Duathlon Challenge held on Saturday in Zamboanga City
The Team 7, composed Roel Quitoy, Romeo Quitoy Sr. and Berto Abdulhamid, brought home the P12,000 cash prize and a trophy for each of the three team members.
Paseo del Mar was the starting and finishing points of the 25-kilometer biking and six-kilometer running challenge that started around 8 a.m. and ended past noon.
Mayor Celso Lobregat fired the starting gun and also awarded the winners in the more than four-hour duathlon challenge which was a test of resistance, speed, agility and strength.
Following second to Team 7 of Zafco was Team 17 known as the Bikers 101 composed of Oian Cruz, Fernando Versoza and Michael Cierro who bagged the P9,000 cash prize and a trophy for each team member.
The Team 15 called the Zanobo from Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, comprising of Oliver Escasama, Reynerio Agias, and Vincent Platitas, landed third place and brought home the P6,000 cash prize and a trophy for each member.
Seven other winning teams received P1,500 each team and a medallion for each team members as consolation prizes.
The 2nd Zambo Duathlon is one of the exciting activities of the 2012 Zamboanga Summer Festival organized by the City Government of Zamboanga not only to boost the fun of the event but also to promote healthy and worthwhile competition.
The 2012 Summer Festival in Zamboanga City kicked off last April 13 and culminates on May 26. (Bong Garcia)
