THE Coca Cola Young Stars Cage Tournament, for the first time ever, will be held in Zamboanga City and would feature young basketball enthusiasts.
Federacion de Basketbolista de Zamboanga (FBZ) president Pedro Alfaro Jr., who was tapped to organize and stage the tournament, said the competition will be held next month.
Alfaro, who is also the Samahan ng Basketbolista ng Pilipinas (SBP) area head, said the groundworks are being finalized for the staging of the tournament.
Alfaro said he is eyeing at fielding 10 teams to participate in the tournament, which will have a unique play format centering on a mixed aged composition for participating teams.
Each of the teams will be required to field players with a combination of nine to 12 years old cagers, Alfaro said.
The holding of the Coca-Cola Young Stars Cage Tournament will be the first time as plans fell through last year for it to be held in the city, he said.
The tournament will serve as an avenue for young basketeers to play in during the summer months, he said.
The tournament also serves as an avenue to discover new talents at various levels, he added.
