City set for ‘Juego na Zamboanga’-A A +A

ALL is set for the holding of the athletic division meet dubbed as “Juego na Zamboanga” next week in this city.
However, for the first time in the history of this city the athletic division meet will be held outside the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex as the facility still houses 2,848 families displaced by the standoff.
The sports complex serves as the biggest evacuation center for the thousands of families displaced by the standoff that started September 9 when rebels infiltrated this city.
City Division of Schools superintendent officer-in-charge Pedro Melchor Natividad said Thursday the athletic event that will see action elementary and secondary students will start Monday, December 16 until December 20.
Natividad said the athletic event will be held in the different schools and most of the games will be held at the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School (DPLMHS) in the village of Sta. Maria.
Natividad said the City Government has constructed at DPLMHS a six-lane track oval and leveled the grounds for ball games liked baseball and softball.
The other venues of the games like swimming, basketball, volleyball wrestling, wushu, and others are the Sta. Maria Central School, San Roque Elementary School, ZCHS-main, Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
Natividad said they expect thousands of spectators to witness the games although it will be held in different areas.
He said they cannot cancel the holding of the division meet since “we need to send an athletic delegation to represent the city in the regional meet.” (Bong Garcia)
