Hidilyn Diaz bags silver medal in 5th Aimag

OLYMPIAN and Zamboangueña Hidilyn Diaz won a silver medal in the weightlifting event of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (Aimag) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The 5th Aimag reeled off last September 17 and will end on September 27.

Diaz won the silver medal in the 53-kilogram category for women, which was held last September 19 and participated by 11 countries.

A weightlifter from China won the gold medal, while the bronze medal was bagged by the lifter of Turkmenistan.

Diaz said the 5th Aimag is just one of the many of her preparations to join the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The other weightlifters competing together with Diaz are Dessa Delos Santos, Kristel Macrohon, and Elreen Ann Ando.

The group are accompanied by Zamboangueño weightlifting coach Antonio Agustin Jr.

The 5th Aimag was Diaz's first competition after she won a silver medal in the 53-kilogram category for women in the 2016 Rio Olympics. (SunStar Philippines)
