Symposium on climate change slated April 30

The event, entitled “Enhancing Communities’ Capacity to Confront Extreme Geo-Meteorological Events at the Core of Climate Change,” will be held at the Garden Orchid Hotel in the city.

It will be spearheaded by the National Institute of Geological Sciences–University of the Philippines (NIGS-UP), Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration–Department of Science and Technology (Pagasa-DOST), and the Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development-Department of Science and Technology (PCIERD-DOST).

The activity would be a venue for earth scientists, local government units, non-government organizations (NGOs), and business sectors to present recent findings and discuss key issues on climate change.

The symposium aims to bring the climate change issue to key places across the Philippines, such that people would be updated on recent scientific information, and provide means to identify policy issues that the government can address as it confronts climate change.

The following topics are to be discussed: Climate Change-Related Extreme Weather Conditions, Climate Change-Related Extreme Geological Events, Current State of the World Climatic Conditions and Projections, Climate Change Financial Issues and Technology Transfer, and Local Adaptation Strategies to Climate Change.

Interested participants may sign up by calling the DOST-Western Mindanao office at telephone number 991-1024. Look for Ms. Thelma Diego. (Press release)
