AT LEAST 200 taekwondo jins from all over Mindanao will see action in the Mindanao New Face Taekwondo Championship 2009 to be held in Zamboanga City.

Taekwondo Board President of the Regional Manage Committee for Zamboanga Peninsula Rey Francisco said the participants will come from the cities of Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Tacurong and Zamboanga, as well as from the provinces of Basilan and Sulu.

The event hosted by the Zamboanga Taekwondo Association, an affiliate of the Philippine Taekwondo Association, will be held Sunday at the City Coliseum in the village of Tetuan, east of Zamboanga City.

Francisco said the competition aims to attain a nation with dynamic citizenry through the influence and motivation of taekwondo as a martial art, science and sport.

He said the winner in the Mindanao level will represent the island region in the national level competition, which is scheduled to be held next month.

He said the local taekwondo association aims to continue the development of sports in support to the City Government’s sports and youth development program. (Bong Garcia)
