A GROUP of local weightlifters in Zamboanga City are set to compete in the 10-day Asian Youth/Junior Weightlifting Championship in North Korea.

Professor Elbert Atilano, the group's coach, said the competition will be held on November 30 to December 9, with participants coming from the different Asian countries.
Zamboanga City's contingents in the 10-day event are Hidilyn Diaz, Jaymie Mendoza and Nestor Colonia, according to Atilano.
Diaz will see action in the 58-kilogram Youth/Girls category, while Mendoza will compete in the 53-kilogram Junior, Woman category.
Colonia will compete in the 56-kilogram Youth/Boys category.
Atilano said Diaz finished 11th in the 58-kilogram category of the Beijing Olympics' Snatch, Clean and Jerk event.
Atilano said he is optimistic that the three local weightlifters would reap medals in their respective categories.
Aside from Atilano, another coach, Antonio Agustin, will also accompany the group.
