CADIZ City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. has vowed to further improve the city's agricultural sector after being reelected in the position for a second term.

After garnering 54,272 votes, Escalante won against opponent Manuel “Mawe” Garganera III who only got 4,559.

Following his proclamation Wednesday, Escalante said it is important to address the rising inflation in the city through one, strengthening the local agricultural sector.

Escalante said the city will concentrate on producing hybrid rice and producing other crops such as dragon fruit and cacao.

The mayor is also looking at improving the city's coconut industry, pointing out that the price of coconut oil is steadily increasing.

He stressed that local government officials can be given more room to improve their performance if the local government units (LGUs) are given enough powers under the Mandanas Ruling.

Escalante said the LGUs can perform as long as they are properly funded.

The city mayor also said that his second term will be an "exciting time" for residents of the city as they are now planning to open the city's 12 waterfalls that would further attract tourists.

They are also pushing for the construction of roads in the city's far flung areas.

Escalante also assured to support the administration and programs of presidential frontrunner Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. although he supported the candidacy of Vice President Leni Robredo.
