Negros Occidental police chief flags extortion group

NEGROS Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) Director Colonel Romeo Baleros warned the public against a syndicate using his name for extortion.

Baleros appealed to the general public not to believe on the scam perpetrated by a syndicated group or person pretending to be the provincial director of Nocppo and asking for cellphone load from contractors and other personalities in Negros.

Nocppo revealed that two victims were fooled to give 5,000 worth of cellular phone card load.

One of the victims was a contractor and the other one was a government employee, said Nocppo in a press statement. It did not reveal the names of the victims.

"Please do not entertain call from any individual who is introducing himself as PD. You can only pay attention to PD's call or text if the number appears in the incoming calls comes from 09178911991," the office clarified.
